Hertie AI warmly welcomes Professor Dr. Kerstin Ritter as lead of the Department “Machine Learning for Clinical Neurosciences”

The Hertie AI is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Kerstin Ritter as new Professor and Director of the Department of Machine Learning in Clinical  Neurosciences. Kerstin joins us from Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where she was a junior professor and head of the research group “Machine Learning in Clinical Neuroimaging”

Kerstin and her team have made significant contributions to developing and applying AI in diagnosing and characterizing diseases of the central nervous system like multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and depression. Her research focuses on creating AI methods that integrate neuroimaging, clinical data, and genetic information to address key challenges such as explainability, confounding factors, and adapting models for multimodal data. The goal is to develop robust, transparent models for clinical diagnostics, prognosis, and treatment outcomes.
Her research has been recognized with several research awards such as the NARSAD Young Investigator Grant from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (USA) and the DMSG Research Award (Germany). She is PI in several interdisciplinary DFG- and BMBF-funded research networks on research questions at the interface of AI, neuroimaging and clinical applications in the field of neurology and psychiatry.

Hertie AI is thrilled to welcome Kerstin to the team. Her outstanding research and her commitment to the application of AI in brain research will will enrich the team of the Hertie AI significantly and we are excited to see what new insights she and her team will gain here at Hertie AI.
